PML-N candidate Rana Mehmoodul Hassan won the by-election in PP-196, while Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf's Rana Abdul Jabbar remained runner-up on Thursday.
According to unofficial results, Mr Hassan secured 28,324 votes, Mr Jabbar bagged 18,112 votes, while the PPP candidate Muhammad Hussain Arain could got only 6,519 votes.
Polling was overall held in a peaceful atmosphere, with minor disruptions in the process at some booths, following exchange of words between the supporters of PML-N and PTI candidates.

Polling for by-elections in Multan's PP-196 constituency is under way, commencing at 8 in the morning to 5 pm, Express News reported.
During the polls, a scuffle broke out between female supporters of PLM-N and PTI in one of the polling stations.
PTI General Secretary Jahangir Tareen said the Election Commission of Pakistan should take notice in this regard, referring it as a violation of the code of conduct.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Ameer Jamaat-e-Islmi Sirajul Haq on Saturday made a telephonic contact and discussed upcoming by-election in PP-196.
Later, in a statement, Qureshi claimed that Jamaat-e-Islami has withdrawn its prior decision to support ruling party candidate in the by-polls.

District Coordination Officer (DCO) Zahid Saleem Gondal said that the district administration would provide all facilities including security to the candidates of by-elections PP-196.
Holding a meeting with candidates, returning officers and district officers here Tuesday, DCO Zahid Saleem Gondal said that code of conduct of elections would be implemented for holding free and fair elections.
