National Candidacy Commission chief Gisela Duarte explained the voting process to Granma.

'At first, the Assembly must approve the candidacy by a majority of the votes of those present,' Duarte said.

'Subsequently, the president of the municipal assembly submits to vote, individually, each of the proposals. To be included, they should have more than half of the favorable votes of the delegates present.'

Organized by the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba, this action is part of the general election process being carried out by the Caribbean nation.

The election season will reach its apex on April 19, when the National Assembly of People's Power will vote for the president of the Councils of State and Ministers of the Republic. - Posted on : 23-January-2018

The National Assembly of People's Power

The National Assembly of People's Power is the supreme body of state power and represents and expresses the sovereign will of all the people.

The National Assembly of People's Power is the only body in the Republic invested with constituent and legislative authority.

The National Assembly of People's Power is comprised of deputies elected by free, direct and secret vote, in the proportion and according to the procedure established by law.

The National Assembly of People's Power is elected for a period of five years.

The period can only extended by virtue of a resolution of the Assembly itself in the event of war or in the case of other exceptional circumstances that may impede the normal holding of elections and while such circumstances exist.

The National Assembly of People's Power, on meeting for a new legislature, elects from among its deputies its president, vice president and secretary. The law regulates the manner and procedure in which the Assembly is constituted and carries out this election.

The National Assembly of People's Power elects, from among its deputies, the Council of State, which consists of one president, one first vice president, five vice presidents, one secretary and 23 other members.

The president of the Council of State is, at the same time, the head of state and head of government.

The Council of State is accountable for its action to the National Assembly of People's Power, to which it must render accounts of all its activities. - Posted on : 10-January-2018

Freedom of Expression

TV3 are not having their froeedm of expression restricted. Theyre having the places they are allowed to go with their cameras restricted. There are already significant restrictions to this on both government and private property, under the law of trespass. The rules are anti-democratic, but I dont think they breach froeedm of expression. - Posted on : 20-November-2013
