Spain follows a parliamentary constitutional monarchy system, where the King of Spain serves as the head of state and the Prime Minister is the head of government. Elections in Spain are held to elect members of the Cortes Generales, which is the country's bicameral legislature consisting of the Congress of Deputies (lower house) and the Senate (upper house). The Congress of Deputies is composed of 350 members who are elected through a proportional representation system. The Senate has 266 seats, with each province having four senators, while the autonomous communities have a variable number based on their population. The main political parties in Spain include the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE), the People's Party (PP), and the United We Can alliance (Unidas Podemos). Other significant parties include Vox, a right-wing populist party, and Ciudadanos, a centrist party. Regional elections are also held in Spain, allowing voters to elect representatives to the regional parliaments in autonomous communities such as Catalonia, Basque Country, and Andalusia.

Senate in Spain
the elections for the Senate in Spain do not happen through direct voting by the public. Instead, senators are indirectly elected by the autonomous communities and the cities of Ceuta and Melilla. The specific process of selecting senators varies depending on the autonomous community.
Typically, after regional or local elections take place in Spain, the elected officials in each autonomous community or city select their representatives for the Senate. The number of senators allocated to each region or city is based on its population and is determined by law. This means that political parties with majority control in an autonomous community or city government will have a greater influence over the selection of senators.
