The Indian opposition criticized the government as top election officials resigned before the vote.

Indias main opposition party has accused the government of "systematically dismantling independent institutions" after the election commissions second-most senior official resigned days before the date for the general election was announced.

BJP announces 54 names for Arunachal Pradesh

The state will hold simultaneous elections to the 60-member assembly and for two parliamentary seats. Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein will contest from Chowkham.
The ruling BJP in Arunachal Pradesh has released a list of 54 candidates who will be contesting for the assembly elections on April 11. Chief Minister Pema Khandu will contest from his home constituency Mukto while the wife of former chief minister Kalikho Pul, Dasanglu Pul, will be fielded from Hayuliang assembly constituency. Owaisi files nomination papers from Hyderabad LS seat

AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi Monday filed his nomination papers to contest in Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency which goes to the polls on April 11.
"Hyderabad Parliamentary Constituency has been the voice of Indias impoverished, oppressed & weak. Ishallah, it will continue to be so", he said on Twitter.

Congress free to field its candidates in LS seats of UP

BSP chief Mayawati Monday advised the Congress to refrain from spreading confusion by leaving seven Lok Sabha seats for the SP-BSP-RLD alliance in Uttar Pradesh.
In a series of tweets, she said the Congress is free to field its candidates in all the 80 parliamentary constituencies of the state.
Mayawati made it amply clear that her party will not enter into any alliance with the Congress.

Mamata for ouster of Narendra Modi

Stating that there had been a 260 per cent rise in terror incidents in Kashmir during the present regime, Banerjee said the BJP-led NDA government could not restore peace in the valley as it had crossed the "expiry date".

"After the elections, the new government at the Centre will bring peace and stability in Kashmir," she said.

BJP Parliamentary Board Meeting

The BJP parliamentary body, the partys top decision making body, is expected to meet today to take stock of its Lok Sabha election preparedness and campaign, a party leader said.
The meeting, which will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party president Amit Shah, comes at a time when the ruling BJP and opposition parties, including the Congress, have been engaged in a heated debate over the Balakot air strike.

Both have accused each other of politicising the Indian Air Force strike at terror camps in Pakistan with the BJP attacking the Congress over the issue of nationalism.

A BJP leader said the party top brass will discuss a range of issues as its campaign picks up pace and strategise over its agenda in the days ahead.
