Unofficial result: PPP wins PS-88 Karachi by-election

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) won the by-election in the Sindh Assembly constituency PS-88-Karachi on Tuesday, Dunya News reported.

According to unofficial result, PPP candidate Yousuf Baloch secured 24,251 votes to win the PS-88-Karachi by-election. Syed Kashif Ali Shah of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan remained second by getting 6,099 votes. Jansher Junajo remained third with 4,870 votes.

At least 108 polling stations were set up in the constituency for the by-election. Tight security arrangements were made to maintain law and order situation in the constituency. - Posted on : 17-February-2021

ECP expels Haleem Adil from PS-88 over display of weapons

Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has ordered Opposition Leader of Sindh Assembly Haleem Adil Sheikh to leave the PS-88 constituency over allegations of display of weapons.

Police personnel held Haleem Adil Sheikh despite resistance from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers over refusal to obey the ECP orders.

On the other hand, PTI leader has claimed that shots were fired at his vehicle in presence of police during a visit to PS-88 polling station.

Police has maintained that Haleem Adil’s claim of firing at his vehicle will be investigated.

Meanwhile, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has written a letter to the election commission and stated that two workers of the party were injured by firing of guards of Haleem Adil Sheikh. PPP has asked the commission to take strict action against the PTI leader and others who were with him.

Harsh words were also exchanged between Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate and polling agent over violation of code of conduct.

It is to be mention here that voting for by-elections in PS-88 is underway and at least 108 polling stations have been set up in the constituency out of which 36 have been declared sensitive and 33 have been declared most sensitive. - Posted on : 16-February-2021
